Catholic Social Teaching

What is Catholic Social Teaching?

Catholic social teaching (CST) applies Gospel values such as love, peace, justice, compassion, reconciliation, service and community to modern social problems. They were formed by the wisdom of Church leaders and influenced by current movements. It is part of a moral compass, guiding us on how to live out our faith in the world.

Catholic Social Teaching is how we learn about why we support a particular charity or movement. We strongly believe that the children should learn about each of the charities we support and the many things we do for the wider community. Many of the charities have a personal link to our school community.

'Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.'
1 John 3:18 (ESV)

The 7 Principles of Catholic Social Teaching

Caritas- Social Action Award 2020/2021

In June, we were claimed the winners of the Primary School Social Action Award for June 2020/2021.

Since the start of lockdown, the school community has created a foodbank that is available 7am - 7pm for anyone from the school or parish.

This project was set up with the principle of dignity for all, providing a variety of products for our diverse community.

Our foodbank continues to grow and is something we regularly replenish through a variety of activities in school. We are so fortunate to have such a caring school community that are willing to help those less fortunate, being able to support anyone from the school or local parish.

CAFOD- Go Green October 2021

As a whole school, we watched CAFOD's Go Green national assembly on the 16th of September 2021 and we were inspired to do something to unite together and fundraise to support communities around the world who are protecting the planet. So, on Friday 1st October, we went green for CAFOD. Everyone in our community came in wearing something green! We all brought in £1 which will be going to CAFOD to help raise money for those around the world. As well as helping those around the world, we also brought in items for our school food bank, to help those in our local school community and parish.

Blue Peter Green Badge- Save the Bees July 2021

During the summer term, Mrs Browne's class were inspired by Stewardship. They participated in the 'Climate Heroes' project, organised by Blue Peter, which involved recycling, saving energy and planting pollinator-friendly plants. The class all received the green Blue Peter badge.
