We have reviewed our curriculum and mapped it to our Catholic Social Teaching and SMSC. We are looking at the big questions of purpose and meaning that arise through the Liturgical year. We are developing a wide range of creative strategies for moving learning and faith into action eg our Oracy for Advocacy project in Year 5.
Why
Our aspiration is to provide a distinctive Catholic curriculum designed for the transformation of society.
We teach our curriculum through topics and use Curriculum Maestro as our planning tool. Although topic based, each subject is tracked and has its own identity.
Why
We chose a cross curricular approach as we strongly believe that when children can make links, they have a greater understanding. This is of particular importance in our school as we have many children who speak a range of languages. This helps to develop the vocabulary needed to learn and understand.
Our creative curriculum includes learning outside the classroom. We are an OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) and Forest School. All classes participate in the Daily Mile.
Why
In our school, the majority of our children live in flats or overcrowded accommodation.
Our Forest School and OPAL lunchtimes are an ethos that promotes self-esteem, creativity, confidence and independence. They enables supported risk-taking, child-centred learning, exploration and play.
End of Year Expectations
Each year, a booklet that provides information for parents and carers on the end of year expectations for children in our school is sent home. The staff have identified these expectations as being the minimum requirements your child must meet in order to ensure continued progress throughout the following year.
All the objectives will be worked on throughout the year and will be the focus of direct teaching. Any extra support you can provide in helping your children to achieve these is greatly valued.
If you have any queries regarding the content of this booklet or want support in knowing how best to help your child, please talk to your child’s teacher.
Within each class page is more information about what will be taught in your child's class including suggestions as to how you can support your child.
More information is available on the subject pages.
