Phonics and Spelling

Phonics and Spelling

Throughout school phonics is taught using the Letters and Sounds scheme of work alongside National Curriculum English standards. Daily phonics lessons are carried out in EYFS and KS1.

Children are continuously assessed to ensure they are working at age related expectations. In the summer term Year 1 children will take part in the National Phonics screening check. Children will either pass or fail this test. If children do not meet the pass score they have the opportunity to retake the test in Year 2.

Key Stage 2 children have the opportunity to use our online spelling scheme, Spellzone, which will provide them with a personalised programme, allowing them to develop their spelling both at home and at school. Your child may also be set homework tasks to complete.
