RE in Raindrops

WC 11th July 2022

In RE this week we learnt why Sunday is a special day to us. We discussed how we get ready for this special day including washing, doing our hair and putting our best clothes on. We set up a pretend altar and chairs outside for the children to role play going to church. We encouraged talking about the church services we go to and what they do; sing hymns, eat bread and drink wine, read from the bible and do the signs of the cross. This was a great experience for the kids and gave them a chance to be the priest.

WC 4th July 2022

This week we looked at knowing and being thankful that lots of people help to look after the church for us. We looked at pictures inside St Peter's church and thought about the jobs that might need doing in there. Children spoke about cleaning and hoovering it and changing the flowers. We linked this to looking after our school and our homes and all the jobs and people needed to do this.

This week we have been looking at Pentecost. We looked back at Jesus' ascension and how he said the Holy Spirit would come to look after the disciples. We read the story and looked at the symbols of wind, fire and water and a dove.

The children made wind sticks, to see if the wind blew, they also looked at how the wind carries bubbles in a certain direction. The children tried to make wind with their bodies and managed with their hands, nose and mouth.

We then looked at fire and and they made fire crowns to represent the fire over their heads like the disciples experienced. They also had the chance to paint a picture of fire if they wanted to.

Next we spoke about water and when we are baptized that we receive the Holy Spirit, we shared some baptism photos and then role played with the babies.

Lastly, the children could make white hand does, using their hand print and feathers.

We also spoke about how we feel when someone important leaves, how did the disciples feel when Jesus left to go back to his Father. We also tried saying goodbye in the languages spoken in our class - English, Romanian, Polish, Telegu, Italian and Sri Lankan.

We read the story of Why are you Smiling? Discussing what things make people smile and what we can do to make them smile too. Some of the children chose to make a paper plate face with a smile on.
