Religious Education

Welcome to our Religious Education page.

The Catholic faith is very much part of our day to day routine in Sunshine Class. We pray together first thing in the morning, before lunch and at the end of the day. There is a very special prayer table in our classroom, we use it to help us focus when we are learning about God, worshipping or praying.

Summer 1 - New Life

This term we begin to understand that because Jesus rose from the dead we can experience Easter joy.
We will learn about the story of Jesus appearing to Mary Magdalene when he rose from the dead.
We will begin to understand the special gift of joy and peace that Jesus gave to the disciples and can give to us.
Then we will learn about Jesus going back to his Father in heaven.

"I am sad because Jesus is not alive."

"I am happy because Jesus is alive."

Spring 2 - Sorrow and Joy

This term we learn more about Jesus, about how we hurt others but can ask God for forgiveness and about the Easter story. We celebrate Mardi Gras with a parade and dressing up and attend an Ash Wednesday service. Later in the term we will have a Stations of the Cross service.

Spring 1 - Getting to know Jesus

This term we will be learning more about Jesus and his life on earth. The children will hear stories about Jesus and think about ways that they can be more like Jesus.

Jesus heals the man at the pool of Bethesda - The children acted out the story. They also made Get Well Soon cards for people that they know who are sick.

Autumn 2 - God's Family / Christmas

We have been learning that we are all part of God's Family. We listened to the story of The Good Samaritan and we know that we need to help one another. We talked about how we help at school and at home.

Autumn 1 - God's World

Our topic for this half term is God's world. We will be learning that God loves and cares for each one of us and that he created the world and we will take time to reflect on what this might mean to us. We will learn that God asked us to care for the world that he created and we will think about what we might be able to do to help. Finally we will take time responding to the fact that God created each one of us differently, that we are all just the way that he wants us to be and that each one of us is special.

We have been trying to look after God's world

A prayer that we wrote together

Dear God

Sorry for not putting our rubbish in the bin.

Sorry for chopping the trees down.

Sorry for picking the flowers.

Sorry for destroying the world.

Please help us to look after the world. Please help us to look after each other and be good friends.

Amen
