Trips

For our Rocks, Relics and Rumbles topic, we were very lucky to be able to visit Hatfield Quarry and Amwell Nature Reserve.

At Hatfield Quarry (CEMEX Concrete Plant), we saw how the land is quarried and how companies try and make it as environmentally friendly as possible. To do this, they turn the quarry back to the land it was before they quarried the materials. Amwell Nature Reserve is a great example of this. At Amwell Nature Reserve, which is looked after by Herts Wildlife Trust, we saw the lakes, many reeds that had been planted and a range of wildlife, including kites, cormorants, swans and Canada geese.
