The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Our topic for this half term is Minibeasts.  The story we are basing our learning on for the next two weeks is ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.

If you have the story book at home read that.

Literacy Activities

Speaking and Listening

Describe the fruit/ food that the caterpillar eats in the story and get someone to guess which fruit/ food you are describing. Then ask someone to describe to you so that you can have a turn at guessing. Make sure you are listening carefully to the clues. Take it in turns to describe (speak) and guess (listen).

Writing

Have a go a writing sentences for each day of the week. E.g. On Sunday the caterpillar went to look for food. On Monday he ate … .

Understanding the World

Find out about the lifecycle of a butterfly, name the different stages. You can use the PowerPoint and video to help or do some research. Can you draw the life cycle? Or use the cut and stick activity below.

Religious Education

This week our aim is to know that we call the Church the family of God and that we can all belong to this family. Share the PowerPoint and the story of how the church began. And explain that the people make the church.

Activities:

Colour in the outline of the church. Draw or print out and stick some people from the church family. Can you write some words that describe what we do in Church?

Using construction (lego) or junk modelling, build a model of a Church.

Art and Design (over two weeks)

Design a butterfly. Use print painting to create a symmetric pattern for your butterfly.

Junk modelling- make your own butterfly or caterpillar.

Paint a caterpillar with a repeating pattern for his body.

Computing (over two weeks)

Use Paint or a similar program draw your favourite minibeast and write a name/caption/ sentence to match the picture.

Please try and read some Phonics Bug books - We can see who has been reading them, some of you have been working very hard!
