Dear Year 6,

Thank you for all the lovely emails and comments about your reports and for the wonderful pictures and blogs that so many of you continue to post.

This week one of your tasks is to write about yourselves for the Leavers' Yearbook. Please take the time to do this, otherwise we will have to write about you!

If you have any questions please email us:

Maths -Multiplying & Dividing Fractions

More revision on fractions this week, you'll be pleased to know! The work is split into 5 days:

Day 1 - Multiply fractions by integers

Day 2 - Multiply fractions by fractions

Day 3 - Divide fractions by integers

Day 4 - Fractions of amounts

Day 5 - Friday Family Maths Challenges

Each day has a series of questions which lead you through the learning. Show your work in your pink home learning journals or in your yellow maths jotter books. There are answers, with explanations, for each day's work so you can mark your work when you have completed it.

Here is a link to the website where you can access the videos prior to each lesson:

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-6/ (summer term week 4)

Friday's family maths challenges consist of 12 challenges:

* Challenges 1-2 suitable for ages 5-7

* Challenges 3-6 suitable for ages 7-11

* Challenges 7-11 suitable for ages 11-15

English

We would like you to complete the work for Week 4 from the same resource as last week (see link below). Complete the work for this in your Home Learning book.

This week you will read about: Endangered Species - the African Elephant

*answer some questions about the text;

*write a persuasive paragraph about protecting elephants

*complete some grammar work;

*practice spellings.

If you are finding it difficult to access the home learning, remember there is always Spellzone, Bug Club & MyMaths.

Spelling

There is an activity set for you on SpellZone for this week. Not all of you are going on here regularly and following your own course pathway so please try to.

Reading

This week please complete the Pobble 365 task to help with reading and writing - this one is called, 'Jurassic'. See the link below.

We would like you to also regularly use Active Learn Bug Club. We do check your activity weekly - many of you in 6G have completed the quizzes but not read one actual book! The idea is to read the entire book and do the bug head questions on the pages before completing the quiz. As of this week, we will be monitoring this closely and we reassign books to certain individuals again.

Religion - Gifts of the Holy Spirit

At Pentecost, the Apostles received the gift of the Holy Spirit. At the sacrament of Confirmation, we can also receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. What are the Gifts of the Holy Spirit? Watch the link below and then read the definitions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWq3HzBSRnI

KNOWLEDGE is the gift of the Holy Spirit that helps us to know ourselves, God and the world around us. It is about more than just facts.  Knowledge is our map to know where our faith is leading us and what our Church is about.

REVERENCE is the gift of the Holy Spirit that helps us to have a deep sense of respect for God and the Church.  Without Reverence we can’t have knowledge.  It teaches us to treat our fragile world gently, including our friends & family. Reverence helps us to pray with trust and respect and to see God in everything around us.

WISDOM is the gift of the Holy Spirit that helps us to love God and spiritual things more than material things. It shines a light on God’s plan in our lives and in the world. Wisdom helps us to say, “I understand how to love.”

COURAGE is the gift of the Holy Spirit that helps us be confident to say we are disciples of Jesus. A person with Courage has the strength to stand up for what is right, even it means being unpopular. Courage gives us the strength and stamina to walk out into the world and feel prepared.

WONDER AND AWE is the gift of the Holy Spirit that helps us become aware of the glory and majesty of God. Wonder and Awe is the beginning of Wisdom because it helps us see that God is the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth.

RIGHT JUDGEMENT With this gift, we know the difference between right and wrong, and we choose to do what is right. A person with Right Judgement avoids sin and lives their life in the way taught by Jesus.

UNDERSTANDING helps us to have an insight into what God is asking us to do and how we should live our lives. With Understanding, being a disciple of Jesus is always refreshing and life-giving to ourselves and others. Understanding is letting the Word of God have room in our lives.

Task: Create a poster with the title 'The Gifts of the Holy Spirit'

Divide a piece of paper (A3 if you have it) into eight sections: one for the title and one for each of the seven gifts then use colours, symbols and words to explain each of the gifts of the Holy Spirit as creatively as you can.

Leavers' Yearbook

While you have been at home, we have started to put together your Leavers' Yearbook! We now need your help. Each of you have half a page in the Yearbook, all about you, to fill with information.

We would like you to start to think about what you are going to put on your page this week.

Task 1: Write about yourself: what you like doing/hobbies/pets/what you like about school (60 words)

Task 2: What do you want to be when you grow up? Why? (20 words)

Task 3: Who are your best friends? Why are they important to you? (20 words)

Lots of children keep their Yearbook and enjoy looking back on what they thought about when they were your age, so think carefully about what you want to say about yourselves.

Once you've completed your Yearbook tasks, please email them to our class teacher.

Art - Photography Project

This week with your photography, we want you to use your kitchen as the main focus. This is know as: 'kitchen sink' close-ups.

  • Place some flowers into a plastic container with distilled water and freeze.
  • To turn water into distilled water, ask an adult to help you boil the water either on the stove or in the kettle first and let it cool down. This removes some of the minerals and calcium from the water.
  •  The flowers will float, so try to weigh them down or fasten them in place so that they freeze under the water.
  • Place the block of ice on top of a clear bowl or glass in a white sink or plate, so that the light can bounce through from below. Position your camera or phone off to one side, angled down towards it, and shoot from the opposite side.
