W/C 1st June 2020

Good morning Year 5.

We hope that you had a relaxing half term. And that you are ready for the last 8 weeks of your Year 5 journey!

It is very important that you keep up with your home learning this half term as this will prepare you for year 6.

We are still waiting for some of you to blog! You have to show us your home learning if you are not in school. We will also check your online work and contact parents if you are not working at home.

The home learning will mirror the work that we are doing in school, so please do not hesitate to email your teacher if you are unsure of something or need more work or books.

Maths:

There is no need to go to the White Rose website. Please find the links for each day.

Monday: Area of rectangles

Tuesday: Equivalent fractions

Wednesday: Convert between improper fractions and mixed numbers

Thursday: Compare and order fractions

Friday: Add and subtract fractions.

Please mark your work with an adult or older sibling. Go through your corrections.

We have uploaded the Weeks 5 - 8 booklet. This week we are completing WEEK 6. You will find Chapter one – My Cousin is a time Traveller. Please read and complete the writing prompts as well as the usual spelling and grammar.

There is also a spelling task to look at and learn on Spellzone as well.

Reading:

This week we have included a reading/writing task from Pobble 365 called -The Watchers. Please see the link below.

Continue with your Active Learn Bug club.

RE:

Our topic this half term is OTHER FAITHS.

No one should be afraid that God has allowed there to be different religions in the world, Pope Francis said.

We would like you to write a letter to a non- Catholic friend.

In your letter you must:

Tell your friend about your Catholic faith and beliefs

Use Bible scripture as reference

Use what we do in school as an example like daily prayers, collective worship, assemblies and hymn practice.

Questions that you would like to ask about their religion.

Places of worship.

You can write or type your letter.

Science:

This week we are conducting an investigation – WHY DOES MILK GO OFF?

Please see the link below on the:

prediction, the equipment needed and the method to follow.

Please blog your findings with pictures if you can.

Do not drink any of the milk samples during or after the investigation.

Topic:

Our topic this half term is PHARAOHS. We will closely link our History, Geography and Art projects to this topic.

As an introduction to this topic, we would like you to compile a fact file about the River Nile and compare it to other famous world rivers.

Include photographs or drawings to wow your classmates by showing them the range of amazing animals that live in and by the river.

You could compare the river in Ancient Egypt to Modern Egypt.

Focus on the modes of transport on the river Nile

What else is the river used for?

Types of wildlife around and in the river.

Facts about the river Nile.

Design and Technology:

Choose one of the following projects:

A

Find out who or what ‘Ka’ was.

Design a colourful symbol that might represent ‘Ka’ in Egyptian hieroglyphics.

B

Make a model pyramid from building blocks or Lego- how high can you go? Photograph or draw your achievement and record the number of blocks you used.
