W/C 1st June 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope that you and your families continue to remain safe and well and we do hope that you have all managed to have a restful half-term week.  Here are the Home Learning activities for this first week of this summer half-term.  Our topic for this half-term is 'Why Is Water Wet?' so most of the activities will relate to water in some way.  Hopefully, with the warmer weather, many of the activities will be able to be done outside.

Literacy:

Read or watch ‘Who Sank The Boat?’ by Pamela Allen.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpFWuHSDFtQ

Which animal do you think sank the boat? Talk about the story and ask who did sink the boat?

Children talk about the story and give their opinion on who sank the boat. Cut out the relevant animal and stick onto your boat. Adult to scribe.

Numeracy:

Work through Bubble PowerPoint on Twinkle.  Counting bubbles and looking at number lines.

Make a boat and write a number on to the sail of the boat.

Complete - Compare Numbers on Boats sheet.

RE:

Introduce the RE theme ‘The Church’.

Talk about the role of the church and the priest in our community and what happens in a church.

Each child to say if they go to church and the name of their church and what they do when they go to church.

Say a prayer for our friends.

Colour in a picture of a church and adult to scribe child’s responses.

Science:

Floating and sinking activity.

Hopefully, this activity can be carried out in your garden where your child can have lots of fun playing with the water, perhaps in a paddling pool if you have one.

Look at a range of objects and decide whether they will float or sink. Separate into two separate piles.
Get your child to place the objects into the water one at a time and to talk about what they can see happening.

We look forward to welcoming back to school some of the Nursery children.  In light of this, we are planning to incorporate plenty of 'circle time' discussions and 'mindfulness' activities during this first week back to school to support the children with settling back in to school.  Below is a list of suggested activities which you may like to do with your child at home too.

Watch 'While We Can't Hug'.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PnnFrPaRgY

Do some Cosmic Yoga.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhYtcadR9nw

Talk about our worries and blow a bubble to blow away our worries.

Breathing and Bubbles - mindfulness.

Make an Origami boat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNba3jbBSOw

Make a glitter, water bottle and spend some quiet time watching how the glitter moves around the bottle and how it settles at the bottom.

Other possible activities:

Paint a boat.

Make a boat using different materials and see if it floats.

Make some bubble mixture and bubble wands (using pipe cleaners).

We do hope that you have a good week and please do continue to send in your photographs of your 'home learning' activities.   Please do get in touch with us if you have any queries or concerns.

Our best wishes to you all,

Mrs. Claridge and Mrs. Badger
