W/C - 27th April 2020

Dear Year 6,

How blessed were we to have another lovely, sunny weekend? Hopefully you were all able to get out and enjoy the sunshine, whether on a walk, a bike ride or in your gardens at home if you have one.

We would like to say a big 'thank you' to all those of you who sent us photos of your work last week and to those of you who blogged. It's a real joy to see and hear about your home learning and also to read about what you have been getting up to with your families at home. Lots of parents also emailed with questions that we replied to. Remember, if you have any questions about anything, you can always email us and we will get back to you as soon as we can:

    rgoss@sphoward.herts.sch.uk

Hopefully, you will enjoy the home learning tasks that we have set for you this week and again, please do send in photos of your work or blog and let us know how you are doing because we miss you all very much.

Stay safe and keep in touch!

Maths - More Ratio and Angles

This week you will be looking at some more ratio problems and then moving on to the topic of angles. We learnt about angles in class, so most of this should be revision for you but there is also some extended learning. The work is split into 5 days:

Day 1 - Calculating scale factors

Day 2 - Ratio and proportion problems

Day 3 - Using a protractor

Day 4 - Introducing angles

Day 5 - Calculating angles

Each day has a series of questions which lead you through the learning. Show your work in your pink home learning journals or in your yellow maths jotter books. There are answers, with explanations, for each day's work so you can mark your work when you have completed it.

Here is a link to the website where you can access the videos prior to each lesson:

Please send us some photos of your work, for us to post on the school blog :)

Religion - Family Time Coronavirus 2020

Reflect

The spread of COVID-19 is a time for everyone to live the great commandment which Jesus gave us:

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also must love one another”. (Jn 13:34)

In a special way, it is a time for families to be together.

Task 1.Write 10 ways in which you can live the New Commandment in your family and with relatives and friends. Use the words in the link above to help you.

Task 2. There are two or three important words not mentioned in the link above.

a) Suggest what you think they are.

b) Explain how you would live them.

English

Look at the resource below, it is four weeks worth of work, so remember you are only doing week 1 this week!

It is based around the book: "The Girl Who Stole an Elephant." You only need to read Chapter 1 and complete the activities based on that. The booklet advises you how to go about completing the activities and suggests how long to spend on each across the week.

This week you will :

*Read the first chapter;

*Write two descriptive paragraphs;

*Complete some grammar questions;

*Practise some spelling words.

Art Project

This is a fun and simple art project for those of you who would like to learn more about photography.

You will need access to either an ipad, mobile or camera that takes black and white images or allows you to edit.

Week 1 to start. Please email or post any of your work on the blog. smiley
