Year 5

Tints, Tones & Shades - Mixing and Matching Paint

The Year 5 pupils studied well-known paintings, where tints, tones and shades were evident. we particularly focused on the impressionists and the children realised that the colour black wasn't used by itself, but shades of colours were used to create shadows. Each child chose their favourite painting and had a go at matching the colours within the painting by making tints, tones or shades.

This project teaches children about the significance and art of the taotie motif, including ancient and contemporary casting methods. We linked this work to the Spring termly topic of the Shang Dynasty.

This project teaches the children about the genre of land art. They work outdoors to sketch natural forms and explore the sculptural potential of natural materials before working collaboratively to create land art installations.
