Chaplaincy Team
Welcome to the Chaplaincy Team. We are made up with children from year 4 and 6. In year 4 we write letters to Mrs Slade and Mrs Waugh about why they would like to be in the role and what we could bring to the team. We are then selected to be part of the team from year 4 until year 6. When we start we are buddied up with a year 6 member who mentor and guide us in our role and what we need to do. In year 5 we then become independent in our role carrying out various tasks and attending the meetings and when we get to year 6, we then take on the role of being mentors to the new year 4 team.
What we do
We meet every week during lunchtime where we pray and plan different events throughout the year. For example;
- Caritas Ambassador Programme
- Rosary Services in October and May
- Remembrance Day Celebration of the Word
- Setting up Mass
- Supporting younger children in prayer
- Meet with our Chaplaincy Teams in the Deanery
Caritas Ambassador Programme
Being part of the Chaplaincy Team means that we take part in the Caritas Ambassador Programme. This is a programme where we learn all about Catholic Social Teaching Values and then at the end create a Social Action Project that we feel will benefit our local community and the needs within it, focusing on the Catholic Social Teaching Values.
The Chaplaincy Team in 2024 completed the Caritas Ambassador Programme. For their social action project they looked at the values of Human Dignity and Option for the Poor. Inspired by our school foodbank, which started off after being inspired by the Caritas Reverse Advent Calendar, they wanted to find a way for those less fortunate in the community to enjoy the treats that we have during Easter Time. They organised for our school community to donate Easter Eggs and Easter treats, which would then be used to make up hampers to raffle. We received so many generous donations that we made up 11 hampers to be raffled, as well as having spare Easter eggs and treats to put in the food bank. They sold tickets for two days before and after school, 11 lucky winners later and they had raised £530 that could all be used in supporting our schools food bank as a way of replenishing it throughout the year, especially during the cost of living crisis where more people within the community are relying on it.
