Different Forms of Prayer
At St Philip Howard we have many different forms of Prayer within our school that we teach the children.
School Prayers
During the school day we have 3 prayers in which the children pray; in the morning, before lunch and the end of the day.
Morning Prayer
O my God you love me,
You're with me night and day,
I want to love you always,
I all I do and say,
I'll try to please you Father,
Bless me through the day,
Dear Mother Mary,
Watch over us.
Amen.
Grace before lunch
Bless us Lord as we sit together,
Bless the food we eat today,
Bless the hands that made the food,
Bless us O Lord,
Amen.
Evening Prayer (at home time)
God our Father
We come to say,
Thank You for Your love today.
Thank You for my family,
And all the friends You give to me.
Guard me in the dark of night, And in the morning send Your light.
Dear Mother Mary watch over us.
Amen.
Traditional Catholic Prayers
With guidance from the new Prayer and Liturgy Document "To love you more dearly" , the children from each key stage are required to learn and know traditional prayers. These will be taught to the children either through the RE curriculum, swapped in for our normal school prayers, during certain times of year i.e. The Rosary during October or May, or during their Daily Prayer and Celebrations of the word.
Morning Offering
O Jesus,
through the most pure heart of Mary,
I offer you all my prayers,
thoughts, works and sufferings of this day
for all the intentions of your most Sacred heart.
Act of Faith
My God, I believe in you
and all that your Church teaches,
because you have said it,
and your word is true.
Act of Hope
My God, I hope in you,
for grace and for glory,
because of your promises,
your mercy and your power.
Act of Love
My God, because you are so good,
I love you with all my heart,
and for your sake,
I love your neighbour as myself.
Rosary Services
Every October (Month of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary) and May (Month of Mary), the Chaplaincy Team leads Rosary Services each week through the month on the school playground in the morning. These are planned by the team in their meetings, they set up a prayer focal point; with a candle, statue of Mary, Rosary Beads, blue cloths and the prayers. They also have a collection of rosary beads and prayers for all members of the community so they are able to join in.
Stations of the Cross
Every end of Spring Term, as a school we gather together to celebrate the Stations of the Cross. Some years we have done this as a big display in the hall or outside- where the classes have made creative pieces to represent their station and we've had children help with acting out the stations, however in recent years the Chaplaincy Team have helped Mrs Waugh lead the Stations of the Cross reflections.
