St Philip Howard

Our School Saint is St Philip Howard. He is known for his strong Catholic faith during a time when England was mostly Protestant under Queen Elizabeth I. Because of his beliefs and accusations of plotting against the Queen, he was sent to the Tower of London in 1585. Philip Howard spent ten years there until he died. He was later recognised as a Saint by the Catholic Church in 1970. He is one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales.

The Feast day of St Philip Howard is celebrated on the 19th October. At school we celebrate the Feast Day by having a week of our RE lessons exploring different areas of his life; this has been adapted to ensure progression throughout the school year groups, meaning each year the children will be learning a different aspect of his life and deepening their understanding and knowledge of who St Philip Howard was and why he is a saint. We then end the week having a Mass to celebrate his Feast day.
